Pluck Press is a family run business. Dr. Jones niece, Rebecca, has assisted with editing. Her daughter, Melissa, assists with marketing, graphic design and customer service. Her husband and son-in-law have also contributed. In addition to family, we have hired experienced professionals to edit our books and design our covers. |

About the Author Dr. Jones was born and raised in the New York Metropolitan area. Throughout her childhood she was rejected by most of her peers. She often ate and played alone. When she was sixteen she saw a movie about Anne Frank. Inspired by the film, she started writing in a spiral bound notebook. Very soon her diary became the best friend with whom she shared her troubles, hopes and dreams. While attending Suffolk Community College on Long Island she considered a writing career. She took a course in creative writing and one in expository writing. Neither instructor encouraged her. Discouraged she changed her major to women’s studies when she transferred to Richmond College on Staten Island. In her senior year after volunteering at a state psychiatric center she changed majors to psychology. She has no regrets. Her psychological training taught her how to think, solve problems and cope with life’s challenges. After her marriage she placed most of her creative energy into raising her two children while pursuing her career in psychology. She put away her journals and did not look at them until 1999 when she was the victim of bullying and scapegoating in her church community. She went to see a therapist but was so overcome with anxiety she couldn’t talk. In between sessions she began writing in a spiral notebook whatever came into her head and then shared what she had written with her therapist. Writing became a central part of her recovery. |

After attending the seminar she decided to independently publish her memoir and established Pluck Press. Using her journal and letters Dr. Jones wrote Not of My Making, about how her childhood victimization left her vulnerable to being bullied in mainline Christian churches. Her book was released on June 28, 2008. Dr. Jones has started her second memoir about her therapist, the late Dr. George Howard whose unconditional parental love allowed her to become the person she was meant to be. |

about how she was victimized by clergy and church leaders but feared it would never be published. So she hesitated. Then on a summer day in 2003 while she was waiting for her next client she browsed through a seminar catalog. A course on how to get published was being presented that night. Looking at her schedule she realized no clients were booked. She immediately telephoned and registered for the course. She didn’t know the instructor, Dan Poynter, was a well known expert on self-publishing. |
